Anti Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections using Botulinum Toxin A (aka Botox®) can be used to remove/reduce dynamic lines, wrinkles and folds in the forehead, frown, eyes (aka Crow’s feet), nose (aka Bunny Lines) and chin giving a smoother, fresher and more youthful appearance. To ensure the best long term results, initial treatments should be approximately 3-4 months apart, but this will eventually become 6-12 months as your muscles are re-educated.
The treatment, administered by a Specialist trained Doctor, is injected directly into the wrinkles which results in temporarily relaxing the facial muscles and preventing the formation of wrinkles, whilst existing lines are softened. Because a very fine needle is used, most patients find that there is minimal temporary discomfort. The entire procedure usually takes no longer than 10 minutes and during this time your Doctor will discuss with you the results which you can expect to see and advise repeat treatments that will be suitable for you.
What is Botulinum Toxin Type A?
Botulinum toxin Type A is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It is injected in minute quantities into a specific muscle and temporarily blocks the release of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. The result is a temporary cessation of nerve signals reaching the muscle which prevents the muscle from contracting. The muscle is then relaxed and the wrinkle is reduced giving a smoother complexion.
Botulinum toxin is approved in the UK for the treatment of several medical conditions including migraine, muscle spasm and hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating). It contains a specifically prepared naturally occurring purified protein that originates from bacteria. It has been used safely in clinical practice for more than 10 years.

Dr Rahul Shah will ask you to pull some facial expressions in order to understand your facial muscles. He will then disinfect your skin and mark the injection sites before injecting the mixed and diluted product into the appropriate muscle using a very fine sterile needle.
Please contact your practitioner if at any time you have any concerns about the treatment. You will begin to see the effect over the course of 5-10 days
Thankfully side effects are usually short lived and temporary. Most relate to the process of injection such as redness, swelling and bruising. More rarely are those relating to the effect of the drug itself. Ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid) whilst still temporary in nature can be caused by the spread of the injection into nearby muscles.
